How Should Gym Clothes Fit? A Simple Guide for Tees, Hoodies and Joggers
Too tight, too loose or just right? How training tees, hoodies and joggers should fit, plus how to measure yourself for the right size.

The right fit is about moving well, not just looking good. Clothes that are too tight restrict a squat or an overhead press; clothes that are too loose catch on equipment and flap when you run.
Training tees
- Shoulders: the seam should sit at or just past the edge of your shoulder.
- Chest: you should be able to pinch a little fabric at the chest; skin-tight is a compression fit, which is a different garment.
- Length: the hem should stay past your waistband when you raise your arms overhead.
- Sleeveless: armholes should give full range without showing more than you'd like when you bend over.
Hoodies
A hoodie is usually your warm-up and walk-home layer, so a relaxed fit is fine. Check that sleeves reach your wrist with arms extended and that the hood doesn't pull the neckline when you look down.
Joggers and track pants
- Waist: comfortable with the drawcord loose; the cord is for fine-tuning, not holding them up.
- Seat and thigh: do a deep squat in the fitting room. No pulling at the seams.
- Length: tapered joggers should sit at or just above the ankle so they don't drag.
Measure once, shop with confidence
Measure your chest at its widest point and your waist where your joggers sit, then compare with the KOA size guide. Between sizes? Size up for a relaxed fit, down for a closer one.
